Linus Benedict Torvalds
Linus Benedict Torvalds He is 54 years old and was born in Helsinki, Finlandia, on December 28th, 1969. He is a software engineer most known to start and maintaining the development of Linux kernel.
Since he was a young age, he has a big interesting about the technology and the programming. His passion motivated him to study computer’s science in the Helsinki university, where he acquired the enough knowledge to his way in the programming world.
In 1991, he decided to develop his own operating system. At that moment, the operating system was really expensive and hardly anyone could use that. Linus dreamed to create a free operating system and with the open source, so anyone could use and modify it. And in that way the Linux project born.
On August 25th, 1991, Linus published his first message about one operating system that was in development. Since that moment, some enthusiasts begun to collaborate with him. Over time, Linux became a solid and reliable operating system, being used in a lot of apps, from servers to mobiles. Business, institutes and governments choose to use Linux because Linux is stable, flexible and free.
The tireless Linus work and the dedications of the developer community led to Linux to be a world reference as a free software and open source. His legacy continue being relevant in the future generations.
Currently, Linux is still the coordinator of the Linux kernel development, and he contributes actively in the project that he began for more than thirty years. His dedication and passion for the free software has left a mark in the computing history, inspiring to a lot of people to take the open source way.
